The DUPO Symphony Orchestra returns to Durham Cathedral under the baton of Anthony Sutch for Tchaikovsky’s profound and intense Symphony No. 6 ‘Pathétique’.
Premiered only 9 days before his death, it is the composer’s most deeply personal and emotionally charged work. Unfolding a full spectrum of emotions from boundless energy in the 3rd movement to a finale that sinks into darkness and resignation.
The concert opens with Dora Pejacevic’s vibrant and colourful ‘Overture for Orchestra’ before Edward Elgar’s ‘In the South’ (Alassio) closes out the first half of our concert
